Hi. I have a XT660Z 1995 that I recently bought. So the engine sounds really smooth and is responsive, but I have this problem when riding. So when I accelerate it has a really loud knock of some kind. I can only hear and feel it when riding and in gear. Thanks.

The first thing that came to mind was worn or maladjusted chain and sporockets. Is it possible your chain is jumping a tooth under load? Inspect front and back for wear. Being a dual sport, is ther a possibility some off road shennannigans have put a rock in a sprocket and damaged something? I am not familiar with that bike but you may also inspect the cush drive pad for cracks, debris, or slippage. I am assuming wheel bearings aren;t an issue as that should make noise all the time - not just under load.
