So I’ve recently changed the piston and rings in my Yz 250 2 stroke I’ve put it all back together and gone for the test ride and now the bike will only go into 1st second and third 4th is like neutral and it just won’t select 5th the gears were all fine before I did the piston and rings there was never any problems I did take the engine fully out of the frame to do the piston if that could change anything just wondering if there was anything I should look for before fullystripping it thanks In advance

I'm thinking maybe there is a simple shift shaft issue from the foot shifter. Try checking that over real close. Like maybe it's not able to move enough to hit 4th. Maybe it needs adjusting.

A bent or misaligned shift fork could be the culprit. Not familiar with that engine but it is a common cause of shift problems related to a single gear.

I’ve had a look over it and it seems to be as you say it’s not going far enough ever to sit in the 4th slot how do I adjust it

usually there is a bolt and nut kind of setup on the shift shaft right from the shifter.
Loosen the nut and twist the shifter/bolt to make it longer or shorter then re-tighten the nut.
