CARBURETOR DIAPHRAGM "EASY" INSTALL - VIRAGO - [TIP]

Here's an easy method to keep the CV Carburetor Diaphragm in the groove while reassembling the carburetor spring and cap. Really haven't seen any good procedure write ups in the repair manuals. See Cymer repair manual page 121 for installation of the diaphragm 13-b. So, an appreciation shout out to the creator of this video.

I've set the video timestamp to open at the appropriate place in the video:

Joe,On my previous xv750 with Hitachi carbs this method in the video worked, however on my xv1100 with Mikuni carbs when I inverted the diaphragm it fitted into the groove perfectly but when the cap was applied (holding the slide up as far as possible) it depressed the diaphragm enough for it to pop out, I tried several times without vaseline before using it then it worked first time.I can only comment about my experience, it may work for others

The video did not really show any ingenious ways to reassemble the top, just a standard procedure.
If the diaphragm distorts and doesn't seat well as you're pushing the slide in, simply don't push it all the way in. Install the slide and push it in just enough for the diaphragm to be in its best shape in the groove first.
Then, of course, when you insert the spring and put the lid on it, the slide will be forced lower into the bore, distorting the material again. You can prevent that by inserting a corner of a (clean) rag or maybe wadded up paper towel into the carb mouth under the slide. Put the lid on carefully, replace and tighten the screws and remove the block from the carb mouth. Of course don't forget to check for smooth travel and return back down.
Just my $0.03. (gotta adjust for inflation!)
