Hello, i just inherited my Grandad's old sr500 from his racing days, and would like to get it running again, been slowing cleaning the bike up, and while attempting to strip it down, one of the pieces broke, i am somewhat unfamiliar with bike, but to me I think it was the ignition coil? was attached to the spark plug, sorry if this seem really obvious. I am looking for a replacement and just making sure I am buying the correct part, any help would be appreciated.

Very cool project! It is very likely the coil if it was attached to the spark plug. Having been a race bike it likely had an aftermarket coil in it.

The original coil is #22 on this diagram,

thanks a ton, thought it looked different than the original, i dont have any pictures at the moment, but if i ever find some, i will post them, im wondering if this part i found on ebay looks right to you? external ignition coil

It does look right and that ad came up when I I I searched for the link. I gotta caution you though, in spite of OEM parts being more expensive - in the long run my experience has been that knock off parts are much poorer quality and cause problems later. Electrical components are the worst offenders. If you take the OEM part number and search it you can likely find something reasonable and good quality. “Ricks” is an exceptional brand and usually exceeds OEM specs.
