21 VX Cruiser HO factory sound issues

11559 Views 17 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  DGMSTL
I picked up the ski couple of days back. When launched on the water I found that the sound system cannot be switched on, the power and usb outlets are not working. Also the light in the compartment (blue from the outlets) is not working.

I checked the fuses in the main fuse block. They are all fine but I'm not sure what they are for as the user manual does not have any mention of fuse block.

Am I doing something wrong, is there a trick to this or it is just plain not put together correctly...

Thanks in advance.

PS. I called the dealer and they said to bring it in but before I do I wanted to check out if anyone has come across this issue or knows how to troubleshoot it.

Quick update. all is well. see below for what the issue was as suggested on greenhulk forums. Hopefully it will save someone else some grief when dealer forgets to connect the sound unit to the battery terminals.

Check around the battery for one or two loose wire ends.

Perhaps the dealer simply forgot to connect the sound system to the battery.

If you do find not-yet-connected sound system wires, check which goes to battery positive. Check twice.
bingo! Sound is now working (the sound control pad lights up and speaks make a sound), and power outlets light up and all is as it should be.

Next to the battery there is another box with fuses. this must be the 12 power audio amp unit. Two wires coming out to the back were just laying on the bottom of the inside of the hull with the ends obstructed by some other components. I was able to pull them up and voila they were showing the o-ring battery terminals. Not connected to anything so this would have never worked, contrary to what I was told by the sales person.

Thanks K447! and seamurph!

Hopefully this will help others and prevent taking too much stuff apart and wasting time getting it working.

It sounds like I have a similar issue. I have a 2021 GP1800r and the audio won't power on. The wires you mention are connected and a parts diagram shows that box as the "Power Balance System Assembly". Before I dig into it (or try to get in to a dealer), did you open the box and see fuses in there? My suspician (or I shuld say my hope) is that it's just a fuse. I find it hard to fathom that Yamaha would have connected the audio system without putting a fuse inline somewhere.
I found my own answer in the Service Manual. This is for a GP1800R HO, but I'd imagine it's the same for all newer waverunner audio systems.

Same issue. All wired properly. Checked fuses. Does not power on. Dealership is 2 hours away. HELP!
I have learned to press and hold the audio pad's power button for about 3+ seconds before the audio fully turns on. Just like the OP, dealer failed to hook up the audio power lines at time of delivery. Has anyone installed a power cutoff switch for the ski/audio power cables to prevent the battery from draining when not in use? My battery died after only a week and a half of not being used.
I figured it out. There ski has a low-voltage regulator that shuts the audio system down and locks it out when the battery voltage falls below a specific threshold (I assume below 12V). The intent is to protect the battery from discharging more than you may want and keep you from getting stranded out on the water. My ski was fresh from the dealership and was reading 11.4 volts. I ran it for a few minutes out of the water on a hose which got the voltage up around 13.5V. System powered right up at that point. Hope this helps.

Similar issue. I keep blowing the 5A fuse in the power balance system? It will work for a while but then blow the fuse. I wouldn’t think the volume would be an issue but not sure.
I had the exact same issue with my wife’s new 2023 VX Cruiser. The fuse block mounted outboard the battery is pretty much only for the sound system and aux. power outlets. The wiring harness coming out of the fuse block at the rear of the hull was tucked under the black jet unit. I pulled it out and found the two terminal ends that were supposed to be connected to the battery. Connected black to the negative post, red to the positive and everything works fine. If you don’t have two wires on each battery post, your audio is not connected.

I just picked up the 2023 Vx cruiser L . Audio worked fine without the ski running. Now audio works with only the ski running. Any ideas?
Try charging your battery up, they have a built in low power management system where if the battery voltage drops below 11.9 v it will disable the power balance system for the speakers, the 12v power outlet and the USB-A outlet in the glove box. I assume to help keep cranking power in the battery for the next time you start the engine so you don’t get stuck somewhere on the water.
Worth a try I suppose.

Make sure you phone/device volume is on low. That will help, but not always. Just lost audio this weekend.
