2000 XL800 crank bearing pin alignments?
Bought a project (blown motor) that ejected piston and cylinder fragments thru the bottom of the crank case. I split the case and removed/examined the crank and connecting rods and all look fine.
I received the new-to-me crankcase and am prepping the crank for installation in the replacement crank case. I noticed that all the bearings have alignment pins and failed to pay attention when I extracted the crank from the bad case.
Do all the bearing alignment pins align at the points on the lower crank case surface edge where it mates with the upper crank case surface? I dry fitted the crank into the upper and lower crank case halves and aligned the pins on the edge and it seemed to fit fine but am concerned and confused with the apparent holes in the lower crank case that appear to also be possibly used for alignment. However, there are 3 bearing alignment pins on the center of the crank and 2 sets of 2 holes in the lower case so the only way the 3rd pin aligns on the edge of the case.
I’m sure I’m over-thinking this but it’s my first time rebuilding the bottom end of a ski.
Don’t have a shop manual yet and my google Kung Fu is weak. Any guidance?
