2004 Big Bear 400 idles great, but have to choke it to go.

I have a 2004 yamaha big bear 400. It cranks and idles smoothly, but will not run at higher speeds without the choke on. I replaced the carburator, fuel line, fuel shut off valve in tank with new filters. New air filter, spark plugs verified valve lash is within specs. No air leaks between carb and engine (tested by spraying ether all around throat between carb and cylinder head). I am stumped. Can anybody help please? Thanks in advance.

New carb? Sounds like the wrong jetting. Did you get a NEW carb or a new to you carb. I would check the pilot jet very close, they love to plug up.
